Services provided by the Technical Services Branch include emergency medical services program oversight, Fire Rescue Training and Health and Safety. These program areas address responsibilities that support the main missions of the Fire Rescue Section.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is one of the primary services provided by members on shift. Being current with laws and regulations is critical. Our staff participates in service delivery decisions with the Medical Directors as well as proposed state-wide changes being recommended by the industry. Current medical direction provides innovative approaches to patient care that stays abreast of trends and best practices. Coordination with the training function is critical to maintain our high quality services while implementing innovative solutions to patient care. The challenges facing this area are funding for technology improvements for patient and employee safety.

Technical Services Branch — Fire Rescue Training

The members of the DPS Fire Rescue Section continue their dedication to high quality services by staying abreast of best practices in the industry as well as innovative solutions to funding challenges. The Technical Services Branch develops and conducts hiring and promotional process for the Fire Rescue Section. We deliver education and training to all stations throughout the County. We also reciprocate education and training with the Gainesville Fire Department.

Technical Services Branch — Health & Safety

The Health and Safety Officer responsibilities continue to be more complex with illnesses that our members are exposed to and the injuries associated with these services. The need to evolve with best practices and the funding necessary to appropriately protect patients and employees has been affected by recent cuts in funding. Long and short term needs will be addressed through efforts being considered in the areas this function supports.
