Working in conjuction with the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning over the Fall of 2010 through the Spring of 2011conceptual plans for the economic development of the Leveda Brown Environmental Park expansion were modeled. These proposals will help shape the eventual request for proposals for the buildout of the Resouce Recovery Park; an integral component of the Alachua County Sustainable Solid Waste Strategy. Submissions to the County covered three overarching components:
Project Feasibility
- Financial Analysis: Financing overall park design, Public Private Partnerships, Economic impact of businesses to the community
- Aesthetics: The public face of the park as a showcase Industrial/Conservation Area
- Synergies: Between park businesses and community at large (ex. compost & methane), Waste and or resource outputs of one business as an input to another
Partnerships
- Incentives & Disincentives: Coordination with broader strategic initiatives: Plan East Gainesville, Council for Economic Outreach, Economic Development Advisory Committee
- Social Aspects: Green Jobs, Workforce Education, Eastside Development, Development of existing local waste-based businesses and national recruitment of companies
- Standards and Certifications – LEED/Green Globes, Comports to County's high performance building history, Solar and Alternative Energy Installations, Reduction of GHG Emissions
- Environmental Constraints and Opportunities – LID, Gopher Tortoises, Conservation Management Areas, Wetlands, Leading by example for land development, Stormwater Management
