The Waste Watchers offer FREE programs to community groups that are interested in learning about solid waste management practices in Alachua County. Your organization can invite our staff to festivals, fairs, meetings or other events to present our characters and other programs or resources. Also, compost bins are available for your group or home gardening.

Characters & Mascots
COMPOST KID
Compost Kid educates children of all ages on the process of composting - both in nature and the composting bin. Waste Alternatives staff will set up a free wire compost bin.
THE WASTE WATCHER
Alachua County’s enviro-hero can make a cameo appearance as part of our recycling program. Or he can make a special appearance at an event or festival.
LITTER PAL
Litter Pal's theatrical/educational awareness lesson on litter prevention is adored by children grade levels pre K - 2. Each 15- minute performance is accompanied by resource and activity materials.

Programs
S.M.A.R.T. SHOPPER
Save Money And Reduce Trash! This program allows community organizations to explore the concepts of source reduction through hands-on shopping activities.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE
Offered through the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department, this program offers important information on the proper handling of household hazardous waste for grades preK-12.
LEVEDA BROWN ENVIRONMENTAL PARK AND TRANSFER STATION TOUR
People of all ages benefit from this tour of Alachua County's Transfer Station, recycling center, composter, household hazardous waste center and resource recovery area.
COMPOSTING
Learn about the process of composting and how to start a compost bin in your backyard or for your organization. This program is designed for ages4 to Adult. FREE wire compost bins are available to help set up or enhance existing community composting projects. Especially good for community organizations with garden project
RECYCLING AND WASTE REDUCTION
This program is an introduction on what is recyclable in Alachua County and ways to reduce waste in our every day actions. Programs are designed for all ages and community groups. Educator workshops are available.
