Rain Barrel Sale

11/12/2009 12:00 AM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Public Works, and the Alachua County Office of Waste Alternatives, in partnership with The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department, Master Gardeners, and the Gainesville Clean Water Partnership are sponsoring a one-day-only rain barrel distribution event. This event takes place Saturday, November 21, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the parking lot of the Home Depot (#270) located at 7101 NW 4th Blvd. in Gainesville (off of Tower Road).

The new SYSTERN Rain Barrel by Norseman Plastics will be for sale on a first come, first serve basis. The rain barrels cost $45.00 (tax included). Cash, checks and Visa are accepted. Various organizations will be at the event with information on how to conserve water.

Jennifer Seitz, Alachua County Waste Alternatives Public Education Coordinator says, "Harvesting rain water with a rain barrel is a great start, but you can also save water (and money) by simply changing your behaviors. For example, you can save thousands of gallons a month by only watering your lawn as needed.   Rainwater harvesting with a SYSTERN Rain Barrel is also a great compliment to your gardening and backyard composting needs."

For more information, contact Alachua County Office of Waste Alternatives at 352-374-5213.

If you have a disability and need an accommodation in order to participate in a County program, service or public meeting, please contact the Alachua County Equal Opportunity Office at (352)374-5275 at least 3 business days prior to the event. TTY users please call 711 (Florida Relay Service).
