ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center is offering an 8-week support group for Survivors of Rape Trauma (SORT). The group begins Monday, October 3, 2016, and allows survivors of sexual assault to come together and explore issues related to healing. SORT is open to adult women and non-binary identified adults who are survivors of sexual violence. Participants must complete an intake interview with staff beforehand. This group is offered free of charge at the Alachua County Community Support Services Office, in the Alachua County Health Department (218 S.E. 24th Street, Gainesville).

Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center is a certified rape crisis center, and the group is facilitated by counselors from the center.

Program Manager Jessie Lazarchik said, "Many survivors go through life carrying a great deal of pain, shame, and anger. One of the goals of SORT is to create a safe space for survivors to process the impact of their trauma, and connect with others in a meaningful and supportive way.”
