ALACHUA COUNTY, FL –
The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department encourages citizens to
take advantage of the WaterSense and Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday this weekend
(September 19 – 21, 2014). Sales tax will not be collected on the first $1,500
of the sales price of select Energy Star and WaterSense products in Florida
including ceiling fans, dishwashers, refrigerators, light bulbs, toilets,
clothes washers, bathroom sink faucets, showerheads and more.
Stacie
Greco, Alachua County Environmental Protection Department Water Conservation
Coordinator said, “According to the EPA, if all inefficient toilets in U.S.
homes were converted to WaterSense labeled models, we could save more than 640
billion gallons of water per year—the equivalent to 15 days of flow over Niagara
Falls.” The US Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense label is used for
products that are 20% or more water efficient and perform as well as or better
than standard models.
