Trashformations Winners

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL- The eleventh annual "Trashformations" student recycled art competition was held the evening of Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Florida Museum of Natural History.  This year 48 entries were received.  All artwork entered in the contest was comprised of 70% or more recycled/recyclable/reused materials. 

The Alachua County Office of Waste Alternatives and the Florida Museum of Natural History are pleased to announce this year's winners:

  • Middle School
    First: Come Together, Hannah Hill, Westwood
    Second: New York, Amy Emerson, Oak Hall
    Third: Sheep Box, Sopicha Vongvanji, Kanapaha
    Honorable Mention: Srebra Smok, Emma Baird and Elaine Penska, Lincoln
    Waste Watchers Award: Frog Princess Fairy, Hannah Korah, Oak Hall
    Museum Award: World Weary Waters, P.K.Young Art Club
  • High School
    First: Butterfly, Ms. Beard's Class, Sidney Lanier
    Second: Monkey Business, Valikia Carter, Eastside
    Third: Dancing Pikachu: Here to Entertain You, Megan Ogg, Newberry
    Honorable Mention: Flower Arrangements, Mrs. McKinnon's and Mrs. Gilbraith's Classes, Sidney Lanier

    Museum Award: Monkey Business, Valikia Carter, Eastside
  • College

    Second: The Flamingo Dancer, Chelsea Oakley, Santa Fe College
    Third: The Comfort of Flying, Elizaveta Oleynik, University of Florida
    Honorable Mention: Sunning Beauties, Heather Waters, University of Florida
    Waste Watchers Award: Sunning Beauties, Heather Waters, University of Florida
    Museum Award: Gilbert The Angler Fish, Eli Meyer, Santa Fe College 

Cash prizes were awarded for winning entries in each category. Gift certificates were given to artists receiving honorable mention and donated by Central Florida Office Plus.

The winning art will be on display at the Florida Museum of Natural History through December 6.
