County Celebrates National Public Works Week

ALACHUA COUNTY — The Alachua County Public Works Department invites all citizens to join them in celebrating National Public Works Week, May 21 – 27, 2006. Please invite your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends or whole class to any of these events:

Tuesday, May 23 - Tour the Leveda Brown Environmental Park

5115 N.E. 63rd Ave., Gainesville

See how garbage, recycling and hazardous waste are handled in Alachua County.

Wednesday, May 24 - Heavy Machinery Road-eo!

Alachua County Fairgrounds - 2900 NE 39th Ave., Gainesville

10 a.m. to noon

Alachua County road crew competes against City of Gainesville and City of Ocala crews in tests of skill.

Thursday, May 25 - Tour the Public Works Compound At Hague

5620 NW 120th Lane, Gainesville

See the heavy equipment, the sign shop, vehicle repair shop, "mule" rides, and more.

Thursday, May 25 - Tour the Animal Services

3400 NE 53rd Ave., Gainesville

See the adoptable cats, dogs, kittens and puppies. Learn why it's important to spay or neuter your pet.
