ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Emergency Management invites business representatives, faith based organizations, and volunteer groups to attend the North Central Florida Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) meeting on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens (4700 SW 58th Street, Gainesville), beginning at 10 a.m. The meeting will assist the County in expanding its network of disaster resilience partners.
The guest speaker for the meeting will be DeAnna Poland-Stemock, who is the Director of Operations and Readiness for the Be Ready Alliance for Coordinating Emergencies (BRACE). BRACE is the successor organization to the Escambia Long-Term Recovery Committee, which helped over 800 families recover from hurricane Ivan, the fourth costliest disaster at the time. The Alliance’s mission is to reduce loss of life, property damage, environmental impact and economic loss, through fostering communication, cooperation, collaboration and coordinating among community, faith-based, nonprofit, private and public organizations active in one or more phases of emergency management.
David Donnelly, Emergency Management Director for Alachua County states, “Alachua County is looking to build a coalition similar to BRACE in our community, and we need partner entities to step up and be involved before a storm hits.”
