ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The public is invited to join the Alachua County Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) Advisory Council for its 17th annual Rock-a-thon, on Friday, May 10, 2013.  The event takes place on the front porch of the Cracker Barrel restaurant (4001 SW 43rd Street, just West of I-75 on Archer Road) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

FGP members and invited guests from County Constitutional offices, the Gainesville City Commission and the Alachua County School Board will keep rocking chairs in motion to raise money and public awareness of the program.

This is a fundraising event. Donations are made on behalf of the rockers with all proceeds going to FGP to support training and recognition events.

The FGP provides volunteer opportunities for economically disadvantaged seniors 55 years of age and older to work one-on-one with special needs children in elementary schools, Head Start Programs, day care centers and after school programs throughout  Alachua County.
