Comprehensive Plan Workshop

2/16/2009 10:20 AM

February 16, 2009

10:15 a.m.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Growth Management  Staff will be holding a public workshop to discuss the Comprehensive Plan amendments proposed as an element of "Mobility:  Alachua County's Plan to Effectively Link Transportation and Land Use". The meeting will be held on Monday, February 23rd from 4 - 5:30 p.m. in the Grace Knight Conference Room in the Alachua County Administration Building, located at 12 SE 1st Street, Gainesville.

The goal of the proposed Mobility Plan is to address state statute requirements to reduce vehicle miles of travel and green house gas emissions. The plan does this through provisions of mobility within compact, mixed-use, interconnected developments that promote walking and bicycling, allow for the internal capture of vehicular trips and provide the densities and intensities needed to support transit, encourage "Traditional Neighborhood" and "Transit Oriented Developments" as proposed in the Future Land Use Amendments and the development of an interconnected multi-modal transportation system within the "Urban Cluster" as proposed in the "Transportation Mobility Element Amendments".

The proposed Comprehensive Plan amendments, maps and related background information can be found here.
