Rabies Alert Rescinded

This press release put out at the request of the Alachua County Health Department.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - On February 24, 2012, the Levy County Health Department and Alachua County Health Department issued a rabies alert for the Forest Park and University Oaks area which is located in Levy County and near the Alachua County border in Archer. Since that time, there has not been a confirmed case of rabies in over sixty (60) days in this area.  Therefore, the rabies alert has been rescinded.

Even though the alert is being lifted, all citizens are asked to maintain a heightened awareness that rabies is a concern and all citizens are reminded to make sure that their domestic animals have a current rabies vaccination record, keep the lid on any garbage cans, and do not leave any pet food out that can attract wild animals.
