ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center, and The University of Florida (UF), Sexual Trauma/Interpersonal Violence Education team (STRIVE) are hosting a Take Back the Night event that includes a march and rally to end sexual violence. The event is on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, beginning at 6 p.m., at Turlington Plaza on UF campus. The march begins at 6:30 p.m.

Paint, posters, and support will be available to attendees. An open mic portion will conclude the events, where survivors and supporters are encouraged to speak out.

"Take Back the Night’s supporters have always understood the power of speaking out." said Alachua County Victim Advocate, Ashley Cortez. She continued, "Rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse and intimate partner violence are often labeled 'crimes of silence' because of the low reporting rates, stigma associated with victimization and social discomfort."
