Zoning & Development Review Items on Meeting Agenda

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – In order to keep the public well informed on important zoning, land-use and development review issues, Alachua County is augmenting its process of advertising these events. In addition to legally required efforts such as newspaper advertising and mail outs to residents within 500 feet of the site, the County will begin sending press releases as well as posting on Facebook, Twitter, the County Website, the County newsletter, and on local government access channel 12.

Items for the November 8, 2011, 5 p.m. Alachua County Commission Public Hearing (room 209 of the County Administration Building located at 12 SE 1st Street downtown Gainesville)

Solar Array Special Exception (ZOX-03-11)
A public hearing for a special exception for installation of a six megawatt solar array located at 1600 NE 53rd Avenue (east of the Gainesville Regional Utilities Water Treatment Facility) will be heard by the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, November 8th starting at 5 pm.  The hearing will take place in Room 209 of the County Administration Building.  The proposed array, which will be located on an approximately 62 acre parcel on the north side of 53rd Avenue, will generate 6 megawatts of electricity when completed in 2016 and will be constructed in six phases.  The project applicant, SYBAC Solar, is a Lakeland-based company specializing in high performance solar photovoltaic systems.  A similar facility was recently installed by SYBAC at the intersection of NW 6th Street and US 441 North.   Please contact the Alachua County Growth Management Department at 352-374-5249 or Jerry Brewington at glb@alachuacounty.us for further information. 

Special use permit for a charter school (ZOS-06-11)
A public hearing for a special use permit to allow a charter school located at 13505 West Newberry Road will be heard by the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, November 8th starting at 5 pm.  The hearing will take place in Room 209 of the County Administration Building.  The proposed charter school will be located in an existing building that formerly housed a day care center and is located at the entrance to the Jockey Club Subdivision on the south side of Newberry Road east of Jonesville.   The applicant, Healthy Learning Academy, proposes a school for elementary students grades K-5. Muphree Solar Park
