ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Commission was presented an Award of Excellence for its Comprehensive Plan on September 27, 2011, by Allison Megrath, AICP, Chair of the Awards Committee for the American Planning Association Florida Chapter.

“The award is based on five criteria: innovation, transferability, implementation, quality and comprehensiveness,” said Ms. Megrath.  “The Awards Committee this year felt that the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan exceeded the requirements that are provided by the State for a Comprehensive Plan, and so I am pleased to present this award to you.”

The Alachua County Comprehensive Plan: 2011-2030 consists of reinforcing strategies throughout the Plan’s 15 Elements, including new Energy and Community Health Elements, to achieve the community’s vision in the areas of land use, transportation, housing, energy, health, economic development and resource protection, and to help create a vibrant, healthy and sustainable future for all residents and businesses, and for many generations to come.  The Comprehensive Plan can be accessed online here.

County Growth Management Director Steve Lachnicht, AICP, said, “This award by the association of professional planners in Florida is a tribute to the effort and commitment by the Alachua County community, and the County Commission, to innovative planning in the long term interest of the physical, economic and social well being of the County.”
