2/18/2008 1:58 PM

2:05 p.m.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Growth Management Staff , in conjunction with the Alachua County Public Works Department, has prepared a draft Long Term Concurrency Management System to address roadways that are either currently over capacity or will be over capacity in the not to distant future.

A presentation will be made to the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, February 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the Jack Durrance Auditorium located at 12 SE 1st Street, Gainesville.  The intent of this presentation is to provide the Board of County Commissioners with a detailed overview of the draft plan to address transportation concurrency by 2020.  The presentation will include a draft public participation plan as well as a discussion of numerous techniques which are proposed to deal with transportation concurrency issues in unincorporated Alachua County including:

  • Dedicated Bus Rapid Transit corridors
  • Transit Oriented Development
  • Existing roadway enhancements
  • Alternative roadway corridors

Options for funding these enhancements, including a discussion of Proportionate Fair Share Mitigation, will also be discussed.  Once the public planning process has been completed and the results presented to the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners, staff proposes to prepare a Comprehensive Plan Amendment for the adoption of a Long Term Concurrency Management System.
