Celebration of Florida's Springs

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL. - A Celebration of Florida's Springs is being held on Saturday, Aug. 4, at Poe Springs Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Poe Springs Park is located at 28800 N.W. 182nd Ave., High Springs.

Sponsored by Alachua County Environmental Protection Department, the St. Johns River Water Management District, Santa Fe Springs Working Group, and North Central Florida YMCA, the Springs Celebration will feature displays and activities designed to teach the importance of Florida's springs and to foster appreciation for the state's natural resources.  Companies involved in the displays and demonstrations include Brasington's Adventure Outfitters, Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants, Alachua Audubon Society, Adopt-A-River, Alachua County Environmental Protection Department, Save Our Suwannee, Florida Yards and Neighborhoods, Karst Productions, Florida Septic, Inc., Florida Native Plant Society, Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, SJRWMD Watershed Action Volunteers, and Wastewater Technologies Inc.

Highlights include kayak demonstrations, interactive water education activities, and educational live animal exhibits.  Crafts for children include making water cycle wristbands and more.

Live music for all ages will include performances by Palm Valley, Dim Lights, Shana Banana, and Boilin' Oil.

Admission is free.
