ALACHUA COUNTY - The water pressure of the City of Alachua's potable water system in the Turkey Creek subdivision and surrounding areas dropped below the State minimum standard of 20 psi early this morning. The low water pressure event was corrected by City staff at approximately 6:30 a.m. This Precautionary Boil Water Notice applies to residents and customers between NW 59 Terrace and NW 104 Terrace that are connected to the City of Alachua's water distribution system.
The City is responding to this event by flushing the distribution system in the vicinity of the low pressure event and collecting samples to demonstrate the absence of bacteriological impurities.
As a precaution, the City of Alachua advises that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.
It is not necessary for residents to boil water used for hand washing or bathing.
This Precautionary Boil Water Notice will remain in effect until bacteriological testing demonstrates that there is not a presence of bacteriological impurities. The City anticipates the Precautionary Boil Water Notice will be rescinded by noon on Friday, March 23, 2007. Notice of Rescission of the Precautionary Boil Water Notice will be posted on the City's website, www.cityofalachua.com.
