ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Animal Services has teamed up with Life South and the UF Student Association of Veterinary Surgery to offer free pet adoptions to those donating blood on Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine (2015 SW 16th Ave, Gainesville).  Blood donors will receive a “golden paw,” which is good for a waived-fee adoption on any pet at Alachua County Animal Services. These golden paw waivers are transferrable, and do not expire.

The blood drive/pet adoption event will include on-site animals, food, games, and give-a-ways.

Donors must be 17 or older, weigh 110 pounds or more and show ID.  All donors receive a recognition item and a cholesterol screening.

Pet adopters must be 18 or older and show ID with proof of current address.  If there are already pets in the home, the potential adopter must show proof that owned animals are current on rabies and license.  All dogs and cats available for adoption are examined, vaccinated and spayed or neutered prior to leaving Animal Services.
