First Alachua County Transition Veteran Information and Referral Day

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Community Support Services’ Division of Veteran Services and Office of Community Stabilization, the Alachua County Office of Economic Development, and FloridaWorks’ Veterans Department are sponsoring the first “Alachua County Transition Veteran Information and Referral Day.” The event is on March 28, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Freedom Community Center at Kanapaha Veteran Memorial Park (7400 SW 41st Place, Gainesville), and is for veterans to receive information and referrals for transitioning to civilian life and securing employment.

Organizations participating in and/or supporting the Veteran Information and Referral Day include: the Florida Department of Children and Families, FloridaWorks Workforce Development, the Alachua County Health Department, Alachua County Social Services, the Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center, the Alachua County Foster Grandparents Program, the Alachua County Cooperative Extension, the Alachua County Crisis Center, the Alachua County Library District, Alachua County Emergency Management, Christians for a Concern Community, the 8th Circuit Court/Judicial Hearing Officer Samuel Stafford, the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center’s Benefit Services, New Horizons, AAA Insurance, the Department of Veteran Affairs, the Alachua County Equal Opportunity Office, the City of Gainesville Equal Opportunity Office, and USAA Insurance (Veteran and Families).

Employers accepting applications include WAL-MART, Alachua County Human Resources, the Alachua County Sheriff Office, and the City of Gainesville Human Resources Office.

Education resources include Saint Leo University and others.
