April is Water Conservation Month

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department (ACEPD) encourages residents to celebrate April as Water Conservation Month. ACEPD challenges residents take the "40 gallon challenge," by taking a pledge to reduce water use by at least 40 gallons per day.

The pledge calls for behavior changes such as using a broom instead of a hose to clean off pavement, and reducing irrigation. Click here to view ACEPD's water conservation brochure. Click here to sign up for the 40 Gallon Challenge.

ACEPD Director, Chris Bird points out, "We can all save water by simply changing some of our habits.” He continued, “Limiting showers to five minutes, running dishwashers only when full, and turning faucets off while doing dishes all helps reduce our demand on the aquifer – the source of our drinking water and springs.”
