ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - September 1, 2010, marks the half way point in the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Alachua County Emergency Management reminds residents that there are still three months left in the season and that vigilance is still necessary as the tropics are becoming more active.

One way to be prepared is to enroll in the County’s high speed notification system, CodeRED. Recent changes to the enrollment page have made subscribing easier. To enter contact information into the system click here, or call 352-264-6500 Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

David Donnelly, Emergency Management Director, recommends that, “All individuals and businesses should take the time to visit the website and add contact information to include cellular phones and other non-traditional phones as well as email and text addresses.”

Recommended registrants include: businesses, residents with unlisted phone numbers, people who have changed their phone number recently, those who use cellular phones exclusively, or have VoIP phones (such as Vonage) as their primary numbers.

Required information includes a street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes) for location purposes and a primary phone number. Additional phone numbers, email and text addresses may also be entered.

For more information about the CodeRED system click here.
