National Drug Court Month Update

5/27/2010 10:00 AM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - In celebration of National Drug Court Month (May), Alachua County Drug Court participants collected 262 pounds of non-perishable food items for Bread of the Mighty Food Bank.  Participants conducted the food-drive locally as part of Florida’s statewide “Drug Court goes Food Court” initiative.  Drug Court staff thanks participants for their efforts and Bread of the Mighty Food Bank for their assistance with the food drive.

The Drug Court Program is a supervision and treatment program serving third degree, non-violent felony drug offenders. There are both pretrial diversion and post plea components to the program. Services include substance abuse evaluation and treatment, intensive legal case management, acupuncture, random urinalysis and a life skills program; as well as weekly judicial monitoring. Participants must seek and obtain full time employment or enroll in an educational /vocational program while participating in the program.

“National Drug Court Month provides for special recognition of drug court efforts,” Drug Court Supervisor Frank Owens stated.  “But the work we all accomplish and the success our participants achieve are daily events.”
