Boil Water Notice

4/12/2010 4:00 PM

This release put out at the request of the Alachua County Health Department

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL -Alachua and Putman County Residents served by Melrose Water Association Public Water System: repairs made to a water line at the potable water system has resulted in a loss of pressure requiring a boil water notice. Pressure has been restored.

This Precautionary Boil Water Notice applies to all Alachua and Putman County residents and customers of the Melrose Water Association Public Water System on the West side of SR 21. Melrose Water Association is responding to this event by flushing the distribution system in the vicinity of the low pressure area and collecting samples to determine the absence of bacteriological impurities.

  • Boil the water before use, holding it in a rolling boil for one minute
  • Disinfect it by adding 8 drops (1/8 teaspoon) of plain unscented household bleach per gallon of water, and then let it stand for 30 minutes. If the water is cloudy after 30 minutes, repeat the procedure
  • Use bottled water for drinking.

The Melrose Water Association will rescind this precautionary boil water notice upon receipt of satisfactory bacteriological sampling results. Residents and customers of the affected area who have questions regarding this issue should call (352) 475-2248.

This Precautionary Boiled Water Notice will remain in effect until bacteriological testing demonstrates that there is no presence of bacteriological contaminates. The Melrose Water Association anticipates this Notice will be rescinded by Wednesday afternoon.
